Since the nation's first college athletic event—an 1852 crew race against Yale—athletics have been a unifying force across the Harvard community.
A photograph taken at the 1913 Harvard-Yale game at Harvard Stadium. The stadium was full to capacity with some spectators standing on the roof over the bleachers. Harvard won, as noted on the photograph, 15 to 5.

“The Game”
The annual football rivalry between Harvard and Yale, know as “The Game,” traces its history back to 1875 when Harvard’s football team travelled to Connecticut and beat Yale on their own turf.
