Members of our community join the world in mourning the passing of Nelson Mandela. His example will forever epitomize leadership, conscience and courage in the quest for equality and justice. Harvard was privileged to welcome and honor him during a historic special convocation in 1998. Those present will never forget being touched by this singular person of shining grace, who transformed the hopes and stirred the souls of people around the world. May his memory continue to inspire all who care about freedom, opportunity, and our common humanity.
