Harvard Interfaith Engagement

Harvard University is fundamentally committed to fostering pluralism, envisioning a campus where respect for all identities flourishes, relationships between communities are built, and cooperation for the common good is a lived reality.
This commitment is deeply anchored in the University’s values, particularly the call for “responsibility for the bonds and bridges that enable all to grow with and learn from one another.” Through the lens of interfaith engagement, the University seeks to foster respect for all identities, build relationships between communities, and encourage cooperation for the common good. The result will be a more resilient and connected community of students who have the skills to navigate and lead in a diverse world.

The programs, events, and resources shared on this page provide an opportunity to address critical needs on campus related to interfaith understanding and foundational relationship building. They also seek to build a community in which interfaith dialogue and collaboration become integral to the Harvard student experience.
It is our hope that all students, staff, and faculty will participate in these efforts to both share their own experiences and learn from the experiences of others.
Leadership
Getzel Davis
Rabbi Getzel Davis is the Director of Interfaith Engagement at Harvard University. He brings over a decade of dedicated service to the Harvard community, having previously spent 13 years at Harvard Hillel most recently as Campus Rabbi and Senior Director of Religious and Spiritual Life. In that role, he led the community through periods of profound challenge and growth, most recently leading Harvard Hillel’s crisis response following the events of October 7th 2023. This experience solidified his commitment to fostering resilient communities and facilitating difficult but necessary conversations across lines of difference.
Rabbi Davis’s approach is uniquely informed by a rich tapestry of disciplines. He holds rabbinic ordination and a Master of Jewish Education from Hebrew College, with a deep background in Chassidut and Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism). He is also a certified practitioner of Family Systems Therapy and runs a private couples counseling practice, bringing a relational and therapeutic lens to his community-building work. An accomplished social entrepreneur, he founded Unorthodox Celebrations, which has connected over 4,000 couples with wedding officiants, and ZIVUG Together, a premarital support program for Jewish and interfaith couples.
In his new role, Rabbi Davis is dedicated to building a campus culture at Harvard where students, faculty, and staff from all religious, spiritual, and secular backgrounds can engage one another with curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to shared understanding.
Abby McElroy
Abby McElroy works as the Multifaith Engagement Fellow, a two-year, full-time interfaith programming fellowship.
Her connection to this work started at home, where she grew up in a Jewish-Catholic multifaith family. In her time as an undergrad at the College, Abby served as a leader in the interfaith community and learned firsthand how transformative interfaith relationships and dialogue can be. She has also done interfaith work professionally with the Friends Committee on National Legislation, a Quaker lobby for peace and justice where she organized diverse faith leaders, and Beloved Arise, a multifaith nonprofit celebrating the intersections between LGBTQIA+ identities and religion, where she developed a mentorship program for queer young adults.
For Abby, this work is about creating spaces that welcome the full humanity and rich identities of all members of the Harvard community, ultimately creating an ecosystem where our community shows up for each other and everyone can thrive. She’s excited to meet you and hear your story.
When she’s not creating programming around religious, ethical, and spiritual life, you can find Abby in Pforzheimer House, where she lives and works as a House Aide with her cat Sunflower.
